How Do You Navigate Daily Life in the City?

A research study about how neurodivergent people in Berlin manage daily life and getting around the city.

15 minute survey, Optional interview (in Berlin), Anonymous and voluntary

1. What is this study?

I’m researching how neurodivergent people manage their daily lives in Berlin.

I want to understand what helps. What doesn’t. What’s missing. What you’ve figured out yourself.

2. Why This Matters

Many neurodivergent people develop their own strategies to navigate their daily life in cities.These personal systems are creative, effortful, and mostly invisible. This study wants to make them visible.

3. How to participate

First of all: all the data will be totally private and anonymized.

1. Take the survey (15 minutes) Questions about the how you manage your daily and and find you way in the city.

Open to anyone who identifies as neurodivergent (diagnosed or self-identified), lives in or regularly navigates Berlin, 18 or older.

2. Join an interview: At the end of the survey, you can choose to be contacted for a longer conversation (around 60 minutes).

Interviews will be:

A chance to share your experience in depth, in person in Berlin (or online if you prefer), At a quiet location (see the details below) you’re comfortable with.

4. Interview spot

Interviews will take place at the Weizenbaum Institute in Berlin, a quiet research space where we can talk without interruption.

The room:

  • Adjustable lighting (I will bring desk lamp, too)
  • Quiet and private
  • Stimming tools available if helpful
  • Entrance floor, close to the main door.

Getting there: I’m happy to meet you somewhere familiar first and walk there together. Just let me know what works for you. If you want to meet at the Institute directly, check below.

Or somewhere else: If you’d prefer to meet at a different location like a place you already know and feel comfortable in, that works too. We can figure it out together.

How to reach the interview space

We can meet anywhere. I’m happy to meet you at a station you already know and take the public transport with you or walk together from there. Just let me know what works.

U-Bahn

You can arrive at Zoologischer Garten station using U-Bahn. From there:

Follow the “N” exit / Hardenbergstr. When you leave, position the stairs in the back and go left (to the direction of big Primark building). And on your right side, you will see a bridge, go under it and keep walking for 2-5 minutes with an average pace, until you see the Weizenbaum Institut that will be on your right side.

Bus

You can arrive at S+U Zoologischer Garten station with Bus. And from there:

Once you leave the bus, you will see the orange MENSA building across the street if you turn around. You have to cross the street to that direction. Once you crossed the street, just turn right and keep walking. After walking for 2-4 minutes with an average pace, you will see the “Weizenbaum Institut” on the left side.

S-Bahn


You can arrive at Zoologischer Garten station using S-Bahn. And from there:

Follow the exit signs with the note of “Hardenbergstraße”. Once you exit the station, turn left and continue until you see the traffic lights where you can cross the street. Cross the street, turn left and continue walking. With an average pace of walking, it should take around 1-4 minutes of walking for you until you see the “Weizenbaum Institut” on the right side.

Walking/Other ways

Just let me know your location, and I’ll provide you with information on the available transportation options. We can meet at a designated spot and then proceed together, or if your departure point is within a 10-kilometer radius of the Institute, we can walk.

A silent and private interview room in Weizenbaum Institute Berlin (located in Hardenbergstraße 32, 10623, close to Tiergarten) or a place you would prefer. If finding new places is stressful, I’m happy to meet you somewhere familiar first and walk there or take the metro together. Just let me know what works for you. If you’d prefer to meet at a different location like a place you already know and feel comfortable in, that works too. We can figure it out together. If you want to first get to know me outside and then decide, that is also fine.
